Wow. Just wow. Now that we have internet access here at Camp of the Word (extremely limited, as I understand it. We have very strict filters that don't allow an sites with obscenities or pornagraphy through) I'm learning a lot about my brothers and sisters in Christ and about what other Christian organizations are doing. Some of it's pretty amazing and some of it gives me a lot of misgivings.
Focus on the Family is a group I have a lot of agreement with as they fight abortionists, the Gay Agenda and support Traditional Families. But they often appear close to the line to me, putting more emphasis on political action and less on spreading the gospel and staying away from the things of the world. They have a "web page" that looks at modern culture and critiques it for how bad it is. Music, movies, videos, books, you name it, they're out there looking for "safe" worldly entertainments for you to enjoy:
How far you engage in popular culture is a question of grace. We at Holy Word Ministries and Camp of the Word have decided to draw the line in a way that prevents us from being stumbling blocks to our brothers and sisters. It also keeps us from wasting time and effort figuring out what worldly entertainment is safe and what isn't. If you have to explain how it isn't bad for you, it's probably bad for you. As God says in I John 2:
15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
The grace of God gives us the freedom to embrace life in a way the unsaved can never understand. The power of the Holy Spirit allows us to decline the World's freedoms gracefully.
