I'm not kidding when I say tenuous. One of my bosses at the Eastside Cafe when I waited tables was Dorsey Barger, the owner of the restaurant along with Elaine Martin. It was always fun to pick up the phone and hear someone asking for "Dorothy" or "Doris" or any other name but Dorsey. Oh, but wait, you didn't want to hear about the good times at Eastside, you wanted to know about Sasha and Malia. Okay, so I knew that Dorsey was an East Coast girl and that she'd gone to UVA in college, but I didn't realize she was a DC girl. Not only that, she was a Sidwell Friends girl and Sidwell Friends School is where Sasha and Malia are now going to school. And her family has been deeply involved in the school for around 40-years, so she's got strong connections there and since I have a rather weak connection to her, that makes for a tenuous connection to Sasha and Malia, right?
Here's Dorsey's story from the Statesman, Sasha and Malia Obama's Eastside Connection:
“My family was connected to the school for 40 years,” Dorsey said a few weeks ago, just after Obama was sworn in as president. Her grandfather and father were both principals and teachers at the school; her grandfather started working at the school in 1941 and her dad left in 1981. Dorsey’s brother is now in charge of the boys’ summer camp that her grandfather started.
