Rick Steves had a quote in Europe Through the Back Door that has stuck with me through the ages--there are two kinds of travelers, those who packed light and those who wish they had. Or something similar. So, in the first of a series of one, I want to introduce you to a list of the essentials you simply must carry with you when traveling to Las Vegas (though I doubt it would make a Rick Steves' list of essentials), the list carefully compiled by Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas:
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five
sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of
cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers,
screamers, laughers and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case
of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we
needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious
drug-collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
